Codes belong on the paperwork
Write the fault codes into the complaint line. It’s what turns your invoice into a diagnostic record instead of just a bill, and it’s what a fleet maintenance manager will need if the same unit acts up again in three months.
Skipping the copy-paste
Invoicing from the truck with your rates saved means the document leaves with you, and the payment link on it means an owner-operator can settle up before you’re even back on the highway.
Frequently asked questions
Should diagnostic time be billed separately?
Yes. Diagnosis on a modern diesel is skilled work with expensive tooling behind it, and pricing it inside repair labor means you give it away on every job that doesn't turn into a repair.
How do I bill travel to a breakdown?
A call-out fee plus a per-hour or per-mile travel rate beyond a stated radius, both quoted before you roll. An hour each way is normal in this work and shouldn't be absorbed into your shop rate.
Why does same-day invoicing matter so much?
Fleet payment cycles start when the invoice arrives. An invoice sent from the shoulder gets into this month's run; one sent next week starts a month behind and gets paid a month late.
